I am SHOCKED!

I cannot believe I just got this outstanding work for 99 cents. Is the author crazy? Well, I don't think so. I think the author must simply be a nice person who wants to help singers with voice problems. Wait--is my Kindle copy going to dissolve in 30 seconds, like "Mission Impossible?" I hope not.
Seriously, this is one serious, extensive work. You might think that, due to the low price, this is some amateurish work by some neophyte who just started singing, and now considers herself a master. You would be sadly mistaken. Ms. David has obviously spent a HUGE amount of time getting this information together. It is obvious that she cares a LOT about this subject, and has put in the time. I don't recall ever seeing the "First" edition. The author explains, in the "Acknowledgements" section, that the publishing house was sold before the first edition was published. I guess that explains what happened to that first book.
As an example of the professionalism in this book, check out the diagrams illustrating the larynx muscles. The pictorials are very clear, with accompanying explanations. There are sections on cartilages, laryngeal folds, suspension of the larynx, extrinsic muscles, intrinsic muscles, innervation, etc. You get the idea. These sections will take me some time to digest.
I am especially looking forward to studying the sections on Relaxation, but especially on the Alexander Technique. This technique is pretty well known among singers, but I'm not sure I've ever done it right.
As another example of the scholarship of this book, look at the bibliography. It is EXTENSIVE. Compiling that list of references itself would have taken many hours. The sheer length of the bibliography is evidence of the scholarship used in writing this book. It is very rare to have a singing book with such a reference list.
I appreciate the section devoted to the temporomandibular joint. For those singers, like me, who are TMJ sufferers, you know what I mean. This is the joint that causes so many problems--ear aches, popping, etc. The author relates several causes of problems, and provides recommendations for proper singing/jaw style to minimize the stress on this joint.
One minor point on the Kindle edition--for some reason the page numbers don't show up in the index. Don't think this is the author's fault--something with the Kindle app, I suspect.
Honestly, I cannot do justice to this fine book in just a short review. And I haven't even gotten to the sections on vocal registration, placement, etc. The review would have to be many pages long. I hope you get the idea. This is one EXCELLENT book!
Yes, it is indeed shocking to get this book for 99 cents. I can only conclude that the author is one gracious person.

Wonderful pedagogy book

Can't believe I only paid $.99 for this book! I would have happily paid more. Very informative and detailed- lots of information, case studies and diagrams involving the singing and the mechanics of it. I've been teaching voice in NYC for over 12 years. The more students I see in my studio, the more I want to brush up on the pedagogy and methods I learned years ago. This book has helped to not only to refresh my memory, but has also taught me many new things that I bring into the studio. My students and my teaching have changed dramatically thanks to many useful tidbits in this book. Highly recommended to any singers and voice teachers.

at least it was cheap

A pedantic dry as dust regurgitation of the works of outstanding scholars of the voice. Better to check the bibliography and read the real works.
