Marius S. Vassiliou is well positioned to have undertaken the compilation of this volume. He graduated from Harvard and then went on to earn a Ph.D, in geophysics from Caltech, an M.B.A. from the University of California in Los Angeles, and an M.S. in computer science from the University of Southern California.
Historical Dictionary of the Petroleum Industry is a useful reference tool for libraries and oil companies as well as for people working in the oil industry or in universities. This monumental historical dictionary of companies, people, places and events in the petroleum industry belongs in every college and university library, every public library, and in the company library of every firm in the industry. The 400+ well-written, information-rich entries in this 663-page dictionary feel like 4,000. They are encyclopedic and packed with cross-references. The dictionary also contains 14 appendices containing tables and charts. Typographically, the dictionary is beautiful. The dictionary was written by a former research geophysicist at ARCO Oil who has a PhD in geophysics from Caltech and an MBA from UCLA.
