A serious history of a joyous music

This book revealed many details about the history of a form of music whose popularity was short lived (1930's to late 1940's) but may have planted the seeds for many Rock and blues musicians to cultivate. I thoroughly enjoyed the reading.

Author Booker has written dozens of books on popular culture, especially science fiction, including nine books on film. This volume is a handy compendium of entries for “people, films, companies, techniques, themes, and genres.” It begins with a 12-page chronology, followed by a 12-page introduction, and concludes with an extensive thematic bibliography. In between, alphabetically arranged entries range from a paragraph to 3 pages in length. The usual big names are covered....Other entries cover topics such as Cult films, Horror, Screwball comedy, and Special effects, to name a few. Surprisingly, few film reference books have the scope of this one. This volume is a useful quick-fact addition to the field.

An Excellent Reference for Every Intelligence Analyst

Hank Prunckun has written an outstanding reference that will certainly be of interest and value to any intelligence analyst. While having some of the format of a textbook, the "Handbook of Scientific Methods of Inquiry for Intelligence Analysis" is also easily read as a general reference.

The book teaches data collection techniques such as brainstorming, the 6-3-5 method, devil's advocate, mind mapping, and affinity diagrams. We also are provided with clear explanations of basic statistical analyses such as univariate analysis, calculating percent of change, per capita calculations, chi-square, and scatter plots. Advanced analytic techniques introduce SWOT, PEST, and Pareto analysis. And, of course the standard techniques of association matrix, link analysis, and timelines are covered.

If you are new to intelligence analysis this book will introduce you to a wide array of analytical techniques. If you are a seasoned intelligence analyst with many years of experience you will probably still find a few new ideas and ways to apply analytic techniques.
