Using the text of The Riverside Shakespeare (2d ed., 1997), edited by G. Blakemore Evans, each of the 37 plays is examined scene by scene, first in a brief synopsis of the action that occurs, then in discussions of time and location and their relation to the overall plot. The time periods between individual scenes are also considered, as is the geographical scope of each play. Historical as well as hypothetical maps illustrate the locations for many of the plays’ settings.
