This book gives practical examples of student activities involving reports and projects using the I-Search model. It reads like a how-to guide with theory interspersed, but it is text-heavy as the authors describe their experiences in managing students as they worked on research assignments. Suggestions for further reading and links to useful Web sites, examples of project proposals, a bibliography sheet, a bibliographic citation form, and note cards plus steps to writing the I-Search paper are all included. While clearly written and quite informative, the book is not easy to read. The layouts are rather tight and the main text is densely packed on the pages. This is not meant to be a quick reference tool, but rather a book that should be read thoroughly from cover to cover. It would be excellent as a supplementary text for pre-service librarians. For the professional development of busy practicing librarians, Sandra Hughes-Hassell and Anne Wheelock's The Information-Powered School (ALA, 2001) and Carol Koechlin and Sandi Zwann's Build Your Own Information Literate School (Libraries Unlimited, 2005) provide more rubrics and a greater variety of handouts, and are easier and friendlier to read.—Angela Washington-Blair, Emmett J. About the Author
Chris Carlson is a former learning center director who has worked with teachers at the elementary, middle, and high school levels. She currently presents, writes, and consults on issues related to school libraries.

Ellen Brosnahan is a veteran middle school teacher who currently teaches an eighth grade literacy block at a middle school in suburban Chicago. She has been a member of her district's language arts standards task force, and she frequently works on her district's curriculum development as a member of the curriculum council.

This updated, second edition of Music Production focuses on the topics of the role of music supervisors, new production techniques, and the updated terms being used in modern-day music contracts. It still includes many of the same valuable tips and tricks of the trade that the author focused on in the first edition (Scarecrow Press, 2006), but includes new information that will keep music producers up-to-date in today's fast-changing industry. After an introduction and a chronology of the music recording industry, the work is broken down into three sections: Music Production; Recording Technology; and The Music Business. Music Production, the lengthiest of the sections, focuses on creative concepts, songwriting, arrangement and orchestration, mixing and mastering, music videos, and the production process. It concludes with two chapters on the history of popular music. Recording Technology provides two chapters on working in the studio and audio engineering. The final section, The Music Business, discusses marketing and promotion, creating a business plan and album production budget, and music contracts. The work concludes with a bibliography and an index. This well-researched volume touches on all aspect of the music production business and would be useful as a reference work in music libraries or a textbook in the classroom. As Kahin did in her coauthored second edition, she has again updated this very useful reference work, this time alone. The author's work builds on the first edition, compiled and written solo by Robert Cribb in 1992. The current release updates entries through Indonesia's elections in 2014 when Joko Widodo was elected president, and generally takes a more comprehensive look at the country. As the title makes clear, the dictionary focuses particularly on historical and political issues, and therefore is most useful for scholars working in these fields. On the other hand, the breadth and evenhandedness of the short descriptions help provide context and background to the country's complicated history, making the work helpful to students who are just learning about Indonesia, or journalists who follow the country and region. True mavens of Indonesian politics and history will appreciate the book's maps (more than a dozen), lengthy list of acronyms, and its appendixes covering post-1945 electoral results as well as the main actors in Indonesia's governments, from the Dutch colonial period to the post-independence cabinets of Sukarno, Suharto, and their successors. The concluding nearly 115-page classified bibliography is accompanied by a thoughtful introductory essay…. [The book is] an obligatory purchase for academic and large public libraries. The extensive Bibliography occupying over 100 pages lists in excess of 1,500 books and articles, nearly all of them in English. It is probably one of the most significant English language bibliographies on Indonesia and is an important reference source in its own right…. I would recommend all libraries where Indonesia is the subject of study or research to acquire this new version. More general libraries looking for a good reference work on Indonesia should also consider purchase….It is certainly a country which merits greater study and understanding, a purpose for which this book, one of Rowman and Littlefield’s top division historical dictionaries, is an ideal starting point and companion. This dictionary offers more current information, drawing on the author's considerable scholarship in the genre and nicely complementing his earlier volume in this series, The Historical Dictionary of Science Fiction Cinema. How much have things changed since the publication of E. J. Josey’s seminal work, The Black Librarian in America (Scarecrow Press, 1970) and The Black Librarian Revisited (2d ed.; Scarecrow Press, 1994)? Judging by some of the anecdotes and data found throughout the 48 essays in this collection, racism remains a challenge to the profession. The mostly brief (four to five pages) essays cover the professional gamut from school librarianship to special libraries work, and the authors range from library school students to retired individuals, with three excellent editors helming the project. Naturally with such breadth and variety the quality will vary, but the immediacy of the personal stories are most striking and thought provoking, even though their individuality raises questions of just how prevalent racism is. The matter of diversity and relatively low number of black professional librarians runs through many of the essays, but all too often some basic questions are not addressed. Are blacks not entering the profession because of white attitudes, or is it a matter of higher pay and more opportunity in other fields? Is librarianship itself as attractive a profession as it was 40 years ago, or is it seen as a going the way of buggywhip salesmanship to new generations? Overall, this is a fine work that could open up discussion in the field, much in the way that Josey’s work did in the twentieth century. This work is recommended for all library science collections. About the Author
Andrew P. Jackson is Executive Director at Queens Library’s Langston Hughes Community Library and Cultural Center. He has served as a Library Consultant/Advisor to Roosevelt Public Library and Wyandanch Public Library, and he is Adjunct Professor at CUNY’s York College Department of History and Philosophy-Cultural Diversity Program and Queens College-Graduate School of Library Information Studies.

Julius Jefferson Jr. is Information Research Specialist in the Congressional Research Service (CRS) at the Library of Congress, where he provides public policy research assistance exclusively to Members of Congress, congressional committees, and staff. Prior to joining CRS, Jefferson served as a reference librarian in the Humanities and Social Sciences Division of the Library of Congress and in the Howard University Libraries system.

Akilah S. Nosakhere is Director of Library Services for New Mexico State University Carlsbad and has held management positions in academic and public research libraries in the Atlanta area. In concurrence with "The Black Librarian in America" & "The Black Librarian in America Revisited", "The 21st Century Black Librarian In America; Issues and Challenges" is just as ostentatious and exquisitely written as the first two. Giving much honor and praises to the late great Dr. E.J. Josey and the Black Caucus of the American Library Association (ALA); the (BCALA) has been diligently committed to exploiting masquerading racism in librarianship and the mental preparation of future Black Librarian professionals. The stories shared uplift the consciousness through the importance of quality librarianship and librarian literacy. The contributors also exemplify black librarianship of the future with strategic prescriptive solutions that are highly applicable contemporarily and forthcoming. Much is to be said about this book and much is to be learned. The essays are exceptionally captivating, intelligent and introspectively stimulating; therefore, their stories can be applied towards all professional attributes of librarianship by Black Librarians.

An update to "The Black Librarian in America" and "The Black Librarian in America Revisited", "The 21st Century Black Librarian in America: Issues and Challenges" is a must-read and a must-have for anyone interested in the changes and challenges faced by African American librarians in the 21st century. I had the privilege of co-authoring one of the essays in this book, and I truly believe that all librarians should read this book, no matter what race or color. The stories shared by African American librarians on their experiences, ideas, solutions, challenges, and thoughts on the state of libraries and librarianship in America are wonderfully written,a pleasure to read, and very enlightening. Dr. E. J. Josey, the founder of the Black Caucus of the American Library Association (BCALA) and the person to whom this book is written in honor of, would be proud.

About the Author
John Flower who is now emeritus spent a long and fruitful career as professor of French at the University of Kent and previously the University of Exeter, ever since 1976. He has published widely on French literature, with a focus on Francois Mauriac, on whom he is an international authority. He has published numerous articles and several books, the most recent of which is Francois Mauriac, journaliste. He is an Officier des Palmes académiques.
